UN Climate Change Conference COP26 - World Of Wood Festival App
The Brief
The UN Climate Change Conference COP26 was hosted in Glasgow, UK, after a two-year COVID-imposed absence. With this, the UK Government, UK Timber Trade Federation (now Timber Development UK) and CEI-Bois wanted to grasp the opportunity with both hands. COP26 was touted by the media as the most important ‘Conference of Parties’ yet, but with COVID restrictions in place, any messaging needed to be simple, impactful, yet adaptive.
The Objective
They wanted to tell the world that global forests and wood products industries are already helping to avert climate change and to present their ideas, projects and manifestos at COP26.
The Strategy
The World of Wood (WOW) Festival was created as a global knowledge sharing campaign with a bespoke and interactive App to inform, support and influence the climate change policies being discussed and agreed at COP26.
With events in Glasgow and London, connected to an eco-system of digital and physical media, WOW engaged and informed busy politicians, civil servants, policymakers and influencers through impactful immersive storytelling on the positive work global forests and the international timber industry are doing to avert climate change.
The proposition of the WOW Festival focused on three core areas:
Decarbonising of the Construction industry
How wood is helping to avert climate change (the Carbon storage story)
How good forest governance effectively supports economic growth in developing countries
immerzion Developments was invited to co-create the WOW Festival and WOW App, with the immerzion.one concept developed into the immersive storytelling World of Wood app and made accessible to a global audience.
The Output
The WOW App became the reference tool which helped secure the agreement of the COP26 leaders’ declaration on Forests and Land Use policy - we made a difference.
